MEDITATION RETREAT Â |Â Â SEPTEMBER 16 – 18Â |Â THE MINDFUL CENTER
When we leave the comfort of our home and take the challenge to invite more
magic and mystery into our lives, the experience can change everything.
This is the invitation of going on retreat.
To slow things down to the pace of nature.
To let go of the burden of piled-on responsibilities, and choose to
only be responsible for this breath, this body, and this mind.
Watching the moments unfurl as deer bound in the grasses and mountains bathe in morning sun.
Join Michelle DuVal, MA, director of The Mindful Center, as she draws from her 20+ years of teaching mindfulness and hosting retreats around the world, to lead you step by step into a retreat experience that will change you and
impact how you view yourself and the world…forever.
In this beautiful 3 day retreat, she’ll focus her teachings and guided meditations on 2 main aspects of practice:
1. Detangling both the mind and the body from chronic busyness and endless doing,
with both yogic and meditative practices.Â
2. Understanding how to enter into meditation in a way that connects us deeper to the world of nature,
with mountain meditations,
blue sky meditations, strong like tree meditations,
and earth meditations, so that you can bring the magic of ‘place’ and ‘retreat space’ back with you into your life
in a way you might have never thought possible before.
All while staying in the heart of one of the most incredible natural environments in the world –
Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico.
All participants will receive a package of downloadable guided meditations to both prepare for the retreat,
as well as to take back with you when the retreat is over.
This will not be a completely silent retreat, although there will be times of silent meditation (see below for schedule).
Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico is the set for many well known movies and it’s easy to see why. Set deep into the land first made famous by Georgia O’Keefe, Ghost Ranch hosts 23,000 acres of pristine high desert wilderness. The rooms at the Ghost Ranch retreat center are rustic, well appointed, and with private baths. But you may have to leave your computer at home –
wifi is almost non-existent.

Yes! Food is served as a buffet, with options provided for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free diets. More specific dietary issues – such as “allergic to cucumbers” will need to be addressed when selecting your choices in the buffet line.
Yes! The food served at Ghost Ranch is not strictly vegetarian, so you can choose a meat option at every meal.
The buffet style meals are abundant. If you have extreme allergies or strict dietary needs, you may want to bring some supplemental foods, keeping in mind that the rooms do not have refrigerators, and Ghost Ranch can not keep food for you in their kitchen. Michelle also provides additional fruit and granola bars all throughout the retreat.
Yes! You can fill up your water bottles straight out of the tap. There is also a water fill up station conveniently located inside the dining hall.
Yes! Everything you need to meditate you will need to bring. Michelle also STRONGLY recommends that you bring a fold up chair that you can carry on a strap over your shoulder. These work GREAT for being able to set up and meditate anywhere on the Ghost Ranch property. Michelle will bring 5 extra chairs, 5 extra meditation cushions, and 10 extra yoga mats to share with participants.
Not really. You can make cell phone calls during the day by standing close to the welcome center, which isn’t far away from where we’ll be meditating. In the evenings you would have to drive back toward the main highway to catch a signal. Internet is basically the same. You can bring a laptop and sit outside the welcome center during the day if you need to, but in the night there’s basically no wifi/ internet, and none of the rooms have internet.
Yes! You would simply purchase the “Food and Lodging One Person” option for yourself, which includes room, all meals, and the retreat for one person, and then you would contact Ghost Ranch directly at 505-685-1000 to let them know you have an additional person coming, and to purchase however many meals for them that they wanted to eat on site. Every room has two beds in it, but you have to let Ghost Ranch know. Also, this person either needs to be vaccinated or bring proof of negative covid test taken within 48 hours of arrival.
At the time of our retreat, camping is not yet open at Ghost Ranch, so no camping options are available for this retreat, which means the hookups and water for RV’s are not yet available as well. So at this time and for this retreat, only room options are available.
