Multi-day silent meditation retreats can feel daunting, but most people find the shorter ones – like this – are surprisingly doable….and incredibly relaxing, shifting, inspiring, eye-opening, and softening.

With the incredibly gracious support of our location – Ghost Ranch – we have designed a retreat experience within which we can keep ourselves safe, away from close contact with others -dang Delta variant! – out of shared breathing spaces with a group, out in nature and open air, AND deeply immersed in meditative experience.  Michelle hosted 3 of these retreats during the height of Covid in 2020, and it was a beautiful, safe, and wonderful experience for all who attended.

Here’s what it will look like:

1. Our group meditation sessions will be conducted outdoors – in the spectacular natural environment of Ghost Ranch. During the hours of meditation (see below for complete daily schedule), each of us will either join the group in a HUGE outdoor environment with breathtaking views, or you can stay in or near your room and meditate there. Or you can visit the outdoor labyrinth for silent walking meditation. Or anywhere else you choose on the 23,000 acre property!

2. During the meditation sessions, the retreat host – Michelle DuVal – will be hosting the group sessions in 2 spectacular outdoor locations on the ranch.

3. As Ghost Ranch has an outdoor labyrinth in another beautiful part of the property for walking meditation, we encourage you to use this feature should you need to get up and move your body.

4. As Ghost Ranch is also one of the most beautiful places in the world – no joke if you’ve never been there – participants are also welcome to explore the natural environment at any time throughout the day. Easy walks, hiking, rock sitting, and sky gazing out in the huge spaciousness of this natural environment will provide the backdrop for our retreat.

5. Masks will not be required at any of the huge outdoor locations, but will be required when going through the lunch line to get your meals, which is indoors.

6. Everyone is encouraged to eat outside on the covered patio, or on the picnic tables amongst the trees in the meadow.

7. An easy, silent, guided hike has been booked for everyone on Saturday Sept. 17 during your meditation break from 1-3pm should you choose to join. Social distancing will be encouraged during the hike.

“During Covid in 2020, I took 3 groups out to Ghost Ranch for these 3 day outdoor silent retreats. Each one was exquisite, just so awesome. It felt totally safe, we were all spread out, but I was also able to provide structure and the group experience as well. And to just steep like this, out in nature, meditating, walking, resting, stretching, exploring….it was one of the most beautiful and nourishing experiences of my life….and the response from participants has been the same. This truly feels like exactly what we should be doing right now.”

The meditation sessions are longer (see daily schedule below), but participants can take breaks for themselves whenever they need.

There will be no formal instruction as part of this retreat, so participants should have some meditation experience. A Welcome Packet will be provided to all participants ahead of time, so you can get any questions you might have answered before we embark on our retreat.  And then at the orientation on Friday, before we begin the silence, you can ask further questions directly of Michelle, the retreat leader. But please note that this is considered to be a silent retreat, so once Michelle begins the silence after orientation on Friday, we won’t be speaking again until she breaks it on Sunday at noon. During the 2 hour free time during the day on Saturday (see schedule below), Michelle has booked an easy guided hike for anyone who wishes to join – or else you can do whatever you please with this time – take a nap, go explore the incredible natural environment that is Ghost Ranch, read a book….whatever you choose.
