Hello!

So super happy to be beginning this conversation with you about potentially presenting at your upcoming conference, set for June 10 & 11, 2019.
I think that a presentation on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) would be a great fit for your group.
I’ve included a short video about MBSR as well as a link to the MBSR program page, where it describes just about everything you might want to know about the program and the topic.  There’s also another short video on that page as well.
At the bottom of this page are also a few keynotes I’ve done so you get a feel for my style, if that’s helpful.
Please feel free to share the link to this page with your planning committees, etc., and don’t hesitate to get back in touch should you have further questions.

A few things about me…

I’m Michelle DuVal, MA the director of The Mindful Center in Albuquerque, NM.  We’ve been teaching mindfulness for about 27 years now….my father started the company after the stress of his own job (he was the President of a real estate company) gave him some very real stomach issues, and after several years of suffering and no real answers, a doctor asked him, “Have you ever tried meditation?”

The doctor was obviously recognizing that my dad’s stomach issues could be caused by stress.

The fact that this was coming from a doctor was the pivot point for my father.  He didn’t want to get into anything too woo-woo or weird…he was and still is a logical guy who likes some science behind anything he’s spending his valuable time on.

To cut a longer story short, he started practicing mindfulness meditation and over a period of time, his stomach issues went away.  He began living again, instead of just barreling through his days.  This started him on his mission of sharing the practice with as many people as he possibly could.  After his internship with Dr. Jon Kabat Zinn out at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, he set up the very first mindfulness trainings in New Mexico, and we have been offerings high level trainings to individuals, corporations, healthcare systems, schools systems, drug court systems….and pretty much everything in between ever since.

I am the largest provider of these type of trainings in the southwest United States, if not beyond.

After speaking with Dallas and getting a feel for what he was thinking would be of benefit to TriHealth, I wanted to put together a little sampling of some of my programs and teachings, so that you can get a feel for my approach.

In my own words, I teach from science, in practical and non-religious/ spiritual terms, and set forth trainings that are designed to get people practicing and experiencing the benefits of mindfulness right away, that could then hopefully set them up for a lifetime of practice and benefit, and/or share the practice with others.

I’ve taught about 15 CME courses directed at doctors and nurses, mostly through the largest provider of healthcare services in New Mexico – Presbyterian Healthplan Services.  Presbyterian has been one of my largest and most loyal clients for about the past 17 years, and our relationship continues to this day.

Here are a few video samplings of some of my teachings….let me know if you want anything different, more, whatever….super happy to provide.

1. This is an edited excerpt from a 30 minute speech I gave on Mindfulness and Leadership….I get into some neuroscience in the full version of this presentation….if you’d like to see the full version just let me know and I can upload it…anyhoo, here’s about a 2 minute clip:

Leadership Summit with Michelle DuVal, MA, Director of The Mindful Center from Michelle DuVal.

2. Here’s a presentation I delivered for Presbyterian Healthplan Services for their upper level leaders and management….there was about 800 people in the audience…and oops!  I’m wearing the same dress! LOL:
