Oct. 1 – 4, 2020
At the Gorgeous Bosque Retreat Center

Teaching mindfulness in these distracted and very busy times takes the spirit of the warrior.

The peaceful warrior.

Impactful mindfulness teachers and teachers-in-training have a need to:

-be rooted in practice
-have ways of explaining profound concepts in simple, practical and modern terms
-be vulnerable and embrace their imperfections in front of others
-inspire others to consistently make time in their busy lives to meditate so that they can feel the shift for themselves.

Taken individually, each of these aspirations can be tough to think about….as a package they can seem overwhelming.

This retreat will be about attending to the whole package, so that you can feel strengthened not only in your own practice, but also by the community of other mindfulness teachers and teachers-in-training.

Who’s This Retreat For

People who either teach mindfulness currently, have taught in the past, or have a wish to do so in the future.

You might be currently teaching mindfulness (or have a wish to):

—in a clinical setting (therapist, counselor, social worker, physician, NP’s, PA’s)
—in an educational setting (teachers, professors, professional development trainers)
–in a yoga, exercise, or meditation studio/ environment (yoga instructors, coaches, PT’s, meditation teachers)
–in the health and wellness sector
–in a high performance setting
—in a family setting

If you currently teach mindfulness, have in the past,
and/or have a wish to in the future

This retreat will provide you the opportunity to connect with others in your world so as to:
—share and learn best practices
—develop and refine your own list of best practices
—learn how to effectively guide meaningful meditations in a variety of different circumstances and settings
—connect with your students in a way that makes them feel like you are meeting them where they are
—creatively foster discussions on mindfulness that can put both you and your students in a state of growth and learning
—learn to better recognize and identify where people are coming from, so that you can share the teachings in a way that makes best sense to them
—develop methods for converting profound concepts into simple teachings and doable practices
—learn how to spot peoples’ blocks to mindfulness, and how to skillfully be with them on their terms
—learn how to skillfully see your own blocks to mindfulness, and how to skillfully offer yourself the same loving guidance as you would another

Our sincerest wish is that by the conclusion of this retreat

–you can be in a new place in your practice
–you can be in a new place in your mental vision of yourself as both a practitioner and a teacher of mindfulness
–you can have with a new set of tools and resources in your tool belt to be able to share the practice more skillfully with both yourself and others.

Your Host

Michelle DuVal, MA, has been teaching mindfulness as the co-founder (with her father) and director of The Mindful Center for the past 18 years, and has taught across the spectrum of community and society. She is one of the only second generation MBSR teachers in the world, and is one of only a handful of full time mindfulness instructors actively teaching in the West today. She is the largest provider of mindfulness training in the SW United States, and is a top rated teacher on the international apps Insight Timer and Muse Meditation Studio.  In 2020, 5 of her guided meditations were selected to be part of a curated “Best Meditations” on Spotify.

At this retreat, Michelle will be sharing all her best practices, best teachings, and honest advice for sharing mindfulness with others in a nourishing and sustainable way, so that you not only grow as a teacher, but as a practitioner and a human being as well.  As she has been teaching for so long, and in so many different environments (drug courts, hospitals, homeless shelters, senior centers, health clinics, government agencies, universities, schools, and major corporations, to name a few), she’s going to share everything she’s learned along the way that has enabled her to continue to bring real benefit to the community as well as run a successful and on-path business around mindfulness.

She will also share the biggest mistakes she’s made in her 18 year career, and the takeaways from them, so we can all get comfortable with the vulnerability and honesty that will make you a great teacher and companion to those you meet along this path of mindfulness.
