What Stress Does to the Mind
and What We Can Do About It
The other night in one of my classes, a student was reflecting on what happens to her when she gets stressed out. She looked at me thoughtfully and said,
“It’s just like I lose my mind.”
Sound familiar?
This experience of ‘losing our minds’ reflects feeling out of control, or in other words, losing control of our own minds. See, one of the fundamental ways we experience a calm and relaxed mind is through our ability to control it. For example, if you want to read a book, a calm and relaxed person can put their attention on the words and experience the book. But have you ever tried to sit down and read something when you’re in the claws of stress? It can seem almost impossible, as your mind zigs and zags everywhere except where you want it to be.
In this short video I explain this phenomenon a little deeper….and then share the antidote.
Hope so much it helps!
With love,
Michelle
